Luigi Premazzi - Eventide in Little Russia [mid-19th century]


Luigi Premazzi was born in Milan and studied in Milan. In 1839 he began living in Russia and taught many pupils including Princess Gagarina in 1840. He soon gained the attention of Emperor Nikolai II, and soon became one of the most popular masters amongst Russian aristocrats in the middle of XIX century. Premazzi travelled a lot from 1854, especially to the Southern provinces of Crimea. For three years lived in Caucasus, where he completed a work for the great Prince Mikhail Nikolayevich. Premazzi was known as an excellent teacher. Betwen 1865 and 1867 he taught watercolour painting at the Pavlovsky Institute.
